2021 Touchdowns (TDs) – Regular Season Recap
5 min read
After Targets, my next favorite statistic to use in maximizing my Fantasy Football lineups is Touchdowns (TDs). In a similar fashion to what I recently did with Targets (2021 Targets – Regular Season Recap & 2021 Targets – Honorable Mention), I would like to look back and see who the best players were to get Touchdowns (TDs) (rushing & receiving) in the 2021 Regular Season. Touchdowns are a significant driver of Fantasy Football success. Most leagues will reward the rushing and receiving touchdowns with 6 points! They are also one of the trickier/less predictable statistics to use.
If you do find a trend or opportunity for those players getting Touchdowns (TDs) you will have an edge! Let’s not waste the offseason and wait around for the next Fantasy Football season. Let’s look back at the past to help prepare for the future. This week I review Touchdowns (TDs) in the 2021 Regular Season!
2021 Touchdowns (TDs)
With a category as Touchdowns (TDs) (rushing & receiving) the majority of the players we will come across are going to be Running Backs and Wide Receivers (they are your primary ball catchers and runners). In the 2021 Regular Season 77 players scored 6 Touchdowns (TDs) or more. Of these top 77 players the list includes: 33 Running Backs, 33 Wide Receivers, 8 Tight Ends and 3 Quarterbacks.
The scarcity in which you find those 11 Non-Running Backs and Non-Wide Receivers is an opportunity to get that type of production at another position. The 11 Non-Running Backs and Non-Wide Receivers on the list are below, along with their last few years history of Touchdowns (TDs). It may be wise to keep these names in mind when the 2022 Fantasy Football Season starts. Especially if they find themselves with similar opportunities.
Touchdowns (TDs) – Quarterbacks
Player | Team | 2021 Total TDs | 2020 Total TDs | 2019 Total TDs | 2018 Total TDs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Jalen Hurts | PHI | 10 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
Ryan Tannehill | TEN | 7 | 7 | 4 | 1 |
Josh Allen | BUF | 6 | 9 | 9 | 8 |
Allen and Tannehill return to the list from last year! Does Tannehill stay on this list in 2022 or was this more of a peak in his progression? I feel confident in Allen returning to the list in 2022 as his results have been pretty consistent over the last 4 years.
Touchdowns (TDs) – Tight Ends
Player | Team | 2021 Total TDs | 2020 Total TDs | 2019 Total TDs | 2018 Total TDs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Travis Kelce | KC | 10 | 11 | 6 | 10 |
Mark Andrews | BAL | 9 | 7 | 10 | 3 |
Hunter Henry | NE | 9 | 4 | 5 | 0 |
Dawson Knox | BUF | 9 | 3 | 2 | 0 |
Dalton Schultz | DAL | 8 | 4 | 0 | 0 |
Pat Freiermuth | PIT | 7 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Rob Gronkowski | TB | 6 | 7 | 0 | 3 |
George Kittle | SF | 6 | 2 | 5 | 5 |
Kelce, Andrews and Gronkowski return from the same list last year! While Henry, Knox, Schultz and Kittle arrive on the scene after coming up just short of 6 Touchdowns (TDs) the previous years. Kelce, Andrews, Waller and Gronk are how I see these rankings line up for next season.

Gabriel Davis | BUF | 6 | 7 | 0 | 0 |
Chris Godwin | TB | 6 | 7 | 9 | 7 |
Tee Higgins | CIN | 6 | 6 | 0 | 0 |

Michael Pittman | IND | 6 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Amon-Ra St. Brown | DET | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Cedrick Wilson | DAL | 6 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Evans, Metcalf, Adams and Thielen scored double digit Touchdowns (TDs) last year and the previous year! Chase, Waddle, Moore and St. Brown were the rookies that cracked this list! You have to like the relative consistency from Hill, Lockett, Hopkins, Allen and Jefferson! Some guys that may even be ascending with Touchdowns (TDs) into the 2022 Fantasy Football Season: Diggs, Jefferson, Johnson and possibly Metcalf (with the scene around him changing it could be a longer shot than the others).
Touchdowns (TDs) – Running Backs

3 Running Backs outscored the top Wide Receivers (and similar to last year the top Running Backs scored a few more Touchdowns (TDs) than the Wide Receivers in the 2021 season). Taylor, Gibson, Gordon, Henry and Jones are back on this list again scoring double digit Touchdowns (TDs) last year and the previous year! Harris, Williams, Gainwell, Hubbard and Mitchell are the rookies on this list! I feel confident with the likes of Henry, Taylor, Gibson and Gordon returning to this list in the 2022 Fantasy Football Season. While it seems like Kamara, Montgomery, Swift and Cook are likely ready for a bounce back year for Touchdowns (TDs) in the 2022 Fantasy Football Season.
2021 Touchdowns (TDs) – Regular Season Recap – Final Word
Always interesting how the Touchdowns (TDs) shake out each season. This past year we had a few less Quarterbacks and Tight Ends on this top Touchdowns (TDs) list. Touchdowns (TDs) can swing a fantasy season. If you have those players that will see more Touchdowns (TDs) I feel you will have an edge. The above lists could be some names to keep in mind as you do your offseason review, ramp up for drafting your 2022 Fantasy Football Team or have trades to make now as you prepare for next year’s fantasy football season!
Do you pick all these highlighted players in the first few rounds of your 2022 drafts? Probably not. Although when comparing them to others around their average draft position, I would tend to lean towards the player that is getting more Touchdowns (TDs) than not.
