2021 Touchdowns (TDs) – Honorable Mention
5 min read
After reviewing 2021 Touchdowns (TDs) – Regular Season Recap (rushing & receiving, top 77 players with 6 Touchdowns (TDs) or more) for the 2021 Regular Season, I wanted to go beyond that to see some deeper names that should be on our radar for the 2022 Fantasy Football Season. This week I look at the top 78-135 players with at least 4 Touchdowns (TDs) (rushing & receiving). Touchdowns (TDs) are a significant driver of fantasy football success as most leagues will reward the rushing and receiving touchdowns with 6 points! They are also one of the trickier statistics to use or even predict.
If you do find a trend or opportunity for those players getting the Touchdowns (TDs) you will have an edge! Let’s not waste the offseason and wait around for the next Fantasy Football season. Let’s look back at the past to help prepare for the future. This week I review Touchdowns (TDs) – Honorable Mention!
2021 Touchdowns (TDs)
With the category of Touchdowns (TDs) (rushing & receiving) the majority of the players we will come across are going to be Running Backs and Wide Receivers (they are your primary ball catchers and runners). In the 2021 Regular Season 58 players scored at least 4 Touchdowns (TDs) (but not as high as 6 Touchdowns (TDs)!, as those players were reviewed last week in 2021 Touchdowns (TDs) – Regular Season Recap). Of these 58 players the list includes: 11 Running Backs, 30 Wide Receivers, 12 Tight Ends and 5 Quarterbacks.
The scarcity in which you find those 17 Non-Running Backs and Non-Wide Receivers is an opportunity to get that type of production at another position. The 17 Non-Running Backs and Non-Wide Receivers on the list are below, along with their last few years history of Touchdowns (TDs). It may be wise to keep these names in mind when the 2022 Fantasy Football Season starts if they find themselves with similar opportunities.
Touchdowns (TDs) – Quarterbacks
Player | Team | 2021 Total TDs | 2020 Total TDs | 2019 Total TDs | 2018 Total TDs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sam Darnold | CAR | 5 | 2 | 2 | 1 |
Taysom Hill | NO | 5 | 9 | 7 | 2 |
Kyler Murray | ARI | 5 | 11 | 4 | 0 |
Cam Newton | CAR | 5 | 13 | 0 | 4 |
Zach Wilson | NYJ | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
It will be very interesting to see how these Quarterbacks do in 2022. Do Darnold, Hill and Newton even get opportunities next season? Hill seems the most likely with his swiss army knife like appeal at other positions besides Quarterback. I think that Murray would be the most likely to replicate his Touchdowns (TDs) success. In fact, I may be inclined to say he is setup to have a bounce back in Touchdowns (TDs) for the 2022 Regular Season. It will be interesting to see where Wilson goes after his rookie campaign. My bet is on Murray to improve or match his rushing and receiving Touchdowns (TDs) production in 2022.
Touchdowns (TDs) – Tight Ends
Player | Team | 2021 Total TDs | 2020 Total TDs | 2019 Total TDs | 2018 Total TDs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Zach Ertz | PHI/ARI | 5 | 1 | 6 | 8 |
Tyler Higbee | LA | 5 | 5 | 3 | 2 |
C.J. Uzomah | CIN | 5 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
Mo Alie-Cox | IND | 4 | 2 | 0 | 2 |
Cameron Brate | TB | 4 | 2 | 4 | 6 |
Jared Cook | LAC | 4 | 7 | 9 | 6 |
Gerald Everett | SEA | 4 | 2 | 2 | 3 |
Noah Fant | DEN | 4 | 3 | 3 | 0 |
Dallas Goedert | PHI | 4 | 3 | 5 | 4 |
T.J. Hockenson | DET | 4 | 6 | 2 | 0 |
Juwan Johnson | NO | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
David Njoku | CLE | 4 | 2 | 1 | 4 |
I feel most optimistic with Ertz, Higbee, Goedert and Hockenson’s opportunity for Touchdowns (TDs) in 2022. Does Cook have another good year in him? He has done it before but with age, the drop off could be just around the corner. Uzomah, Alie-Cox, Brate, Everett and Fant could well be destined for bigger numbers after stepping into new roles going into 2022.
The lists below are your Wide Receivers and Running Backs within the top 78-135 players with at least 4 Touchdowns (TDs) (rushing & receiving) in the 2021 Regular Season.

Josh Palmer | LAC | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Kalif Raymond | DET | 4 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
Emmanuel Sanders | BUF | 4 | 5 | 5 | 5 |
Freddie Swain | SEA | 4 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine | TEN | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Smith and Palmer are the rookies to crack this list! I imagine we will see more of the same (maybe a bit more) from them in 2022. You sure like the relative consistency of Touchdowns (TDs) from Anderson, Beckham Jr., Bourne, Boyd, Mooney, Davis, Landry, Moore and Sanders! Does the upward trend for Berrios, Cobb, Mooney, Pringle and Agnew continue in 2022? The bounce back could happen in 2022 for the likes of A.J. Brown, Woods, and Jones.
Touchdowns (TDs) – Running Backs
Player | Team | 2021 Total TDs | 2020 Total TDs | 2019 Total TDs | 2018 Total TDs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Kareem Hunt | CLE | 5 | 11 | 3 | 14 |
Sony Michel | LA | 5 | 2 | 7 | 6 |
Zack Moss | BUF | 5 | 5 | 0 | 0 |
Rhamondre Stevenson | NE | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Saquon Barkley | NYG | 4 | 0 | 8 | 15 |
Michael Carter | NYJ | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Mike Davis | ATL | 4 | 8 | 0 | 5 |
Ty Johnson | NYJ | 4 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Ronald Jones II | TB | 4 | 8 | 6 | 1 |
Alexander Mattison | MIN | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 |
J.D. McKissic | WAS | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 |
Moss and Jones II do have a bit of consistency here. Stevenson and Carter are the rookies to make the list. While Hunt looks primed for a return to a higher Touchdowns (TDs) number in 2022. Barkley is a big question mark and we seem to all be waiting to see which version (2021/2020 version or the 2019/2018 player) we are getting of him this upcoming season.
2021 Touchdowns (TDs) – Honorable Mention – Final Word
Always interesting how the Touchdowns (TDs) shake out each season. This year we added a few more Quarterbacks and Tight Ends to this top 2021 Touchdowns (TDs) – Honorable Mention list. Touchdowns (TDs) can swing a fantasy season and if you are able to have those players that will see more Touchdowns (TDs) in the season I feel you will have an edge. The above lists could be some names to keep in mind as you do your offseason review, ramp up for drafting your 2022 Fantasy Football Team or have trades to make now as you prepare for next year’s Fantasy Football Season!
I did take note while completing this exercise that .50 Touchdowns (TDs) per game was a pretty decent average for the players to attain. In 2021 players such as Kareem Hunt, Robert Woods, Odell Beckham Jr. and Cam Newton all met or were above this per game mark. So, as you go through the season and you see that average ratio fit the bill for a player. It may be worth a pickup if you think that average will continue through the season.
Do you pick all these highlighted players in the first few rounds of your 2022 drafts? Probably not. Although, when comparing them to others around their average draft position, I would lean towards the player that is getting more Touchdowns (TDs) than not.
