2023 Post Draft Targets and TDs Fantasy Football

The 2023 NFL Draft is in the books, and it was a lively one! Besides the selections themselves the draft was full of trades which added to the excitement this year. Now the exciting piece for football and fantasy football lovers starts, the 2023 Post NFL Draft analysis and how these new players fit with their new teams! The teams have made changes and now we can try to figure out which players are in opportune spots to start their careers in regard to scoring points in fantasy football.

Quarterbacks

I think a few will get their opportunity at some point in the 2023 NFL Season. It seems certain that the first 2 picks (Young and Stroud) will get the start from day 1 for their teams. While getting to see an athlete like Richardson start sooner rather than later, is highly anticipated by the fantasy community.

Unless a Quarterback has a good rushing floor, they most likely won’t crack the top ten in their position category. Keep expectations in check for the position going into the 2023 NFL Season. Especially early on a Quarterback’s rushing yards can help offset their passing yards and still catch opposing defenses off guard. Some Quarterbacks that I am keeping an eye on going into the 2023 NFL Season in regards to Fantasy Football are (in order of preference):

  1. Bryce Young – CAR
  2. CJ Stroud – HOU
  3. Anthony Richardson – IND
  4. Hendon Hooker – DET
  5. Will Levis – TEN

Running Backs

For the Running Backs, two guys (Robinson and Gibbs) most likely will be given an opportunity right away and a few others most likely will see complimentary roles as the 2023 NFL Season starts. Some names that caught my eye for Running Back opportunity heading into the 2023 NFL Season for Fantasy Football are (in order of preference):

  1. Bijan Robinson – ATL
  2. Jahmyr Gibbs – DET
  3. Devon Achane – MIA
  4. Zach Charbonnet – SEA
  5. Kendre Miller – NO
  6. Tyjae Spears – TEN
  7. Tank Bigsby – JAX
  8. Roschon Johnson – CHI
  9. Israel Abanikanda – NYJ
  10. Chase Brown – CIN
  11. Zachary Evans – LAR
  12. Kenny McIntosh – SEA

Wide Receivers

The Wide Receivers go deep this year but limited high end talent as compared to last year’s draft. They usually need a little time in the beginning of the season to really get up to speed as far as offering consistent fantasy football points each week. Be patient as the season starts out and look for the consistency later in this rookie season. Some Wide Receivers that I will be watching heading into the 2023 NFL season in regards to Fantasy Football initially are (in order of preference):

  1. Jaxon Smith-Njigba – SEA
  2. Quentin Johnston – LAC
  3. Jordan Addison – MIN
  4. Jonathan Mingo – CAR
  5. Zay Flowers – BAL
  6. Rashee Rice – KC
  7. Jayden Reed – GB
  8. Cedric Tillman – CLE
  9. Marvin Mims – DEN
  10. Josh Downs – IND
  11. Jaylin Hyatt – NYG
  12. Nathaniel “Tank” Dell – HOU
  13. Michael Wilson – ARI
  14. Dontayvion Wicks – GB
  15. Justin Shorter – BUF
  16. Puka Nacua – LAR
  17. Parker Washington – JAX
  18. AT Perry – NO
  19. Kayshon Boutte – NE
  20. Xavier Hutchinson – HOU
  21. Elijah Higgins – MIA

Tight Ends

The Tight Ends look to have more talent depth than in most years. Will that bring balance to the position for fantasy football? Usually, a few years are needed before these guys become fantasy football relevant. It may be some time until we can confirm all the anticipated depth the league is getting at this position this year. Some Tight Ends that I am interested to see grow in their NFL career are (in order of preference):

  1. Dalton Kincaid – BUF
  2. Sam LaPorta – DET
  3. Luke Schoonmaker – DAL
  4. Michael Mayer – LV
  5. Luke Musgrave – GB
  6. Tucker Kraft – GB
  7. Brenton Strange – JAX
  8. Darnell Washington – PIT
  9. Cameron Latu – SF
  10. Josh Whyle – TEN
  11. Will Mallory – IND
  12. Davis Allen – LAR

2023 Post NFL Draft Final Thoughts

It will be interesting to look back at these initial takes prior to the season getting started. I am sure some may drop off my watch list and some others will probably be added. The draft gets the players in, then they get to practice, learn plays/schemes to get their playing time opportunity at their position. A wide receiver playing on a team that runs the ball most times may not be great. While a fantastic running back in a pass happy offense isn’t always a combination for good things in fantasy football. Be aware of the teams the players find themselves on and let’s see who moves up depth charts as the summer goes along.

Ability, Availability and Opportunity have all gotten the players to this point! Some players are closer than others in how much of an opportunity that they will have. Who will have the chance for Touchdowns? Who slides in for a good portion of Targets? If you believe a player is in line for either, you know I would be interested in them! If you missed it before the draft, feel free to check my thoughts leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft and keep it in mind when looking at rookies through a fantasy football lens.
